Create your UG's E-Bilanz yourself
Since 2013, every company that prepares a balance sheet must submit it and the P&L electronically to the tax office (§5b EStG). The format is XBRL and submission goes through ELSTER.
What is an E-Bilanz?
The E-Bilanz is the electronic version of your annual report in the standardized XBRL format (eXtensible Business Reporting Language). It contains the balance sheet positions per the HGB taxonomy and is submitted via the ELSTER interface of the German tax administration.
Which taxonomy does a UG need?
UGtax uses the HGB taxonomy for micro-corporations (§267a HGB) with the SKR04 chart of accounts. The simplified structure covers the essential balance sheet positions: fixed assets, current assets, equity, liabilities, revenue, and expenses.
How to create your E-Bilanz
- 1Download bank export
Download the account statement as XML (camt.053), CSV or XLSX from your business bank account.
- 2Upload and classify
UGtax recognizes common bookings automatically (IHK, bank fees, GmbH costs). Unrecognized entries can be classified manually or via AI.
- 3Download E-Bilanz
UGtax generates the XBRL file per the HGB taxonomy. You also get a filing guide with all ELSTER field numbers for KSt and GewSt.
- 4Submit to ELSTER
Directly from UGtax (self-hosted with ERiC) or via Mein ELSTER / steuerschroeder.de / myebilanz.de.
Frequently asked questions
Can I really do the E-Bilanz myself?
Yes, if your UG is a micro-corporation (few transactions, no employees, small-business VAT). UGtax walks you through the process.
Is my bank data stored?
No. Your bank data is processed in memory only and deleted immediately after the request completes. No database, no logging.
What does UGtax cost?
Nothing. UGtax is free and open source (MIT license). Optionally you can supply your own Anthropic API key for AI classification.
